Cedar Rapids-based Rayser Holdings, Inc. has acquired Skunk River Block & Pallet, Inc., a custom wood pallet and crating company located in Pella, Iowa.

Skunk River Block & Pallet has served central Iowa for more than 43 years, specializing in new pallets, crates, blocks and other specialty wood packaging products. Arvin and Darlene Van Hall founded the company in 1983 to meet local manufacturers’ need for new wood pallets and packaging.

Darlene Van Hall said in a statement that the family selected Rayser Holdings as the buyer because of its commitment to employee ownership and preserving the company’s legacy.

“When we decided to exit the business that we built and nurtured for over 40 years, we chose to work with Rayser Holdings,” Ms. Van Hall said. “We selected Rayser Holdings because we wanted to give back to the employees who helped our family build this business, and we wanted to see its legacy continued.”

Michelle Jensen, president and CEO of Rayser Holdings, said the acquisition reflects the company’s ongoing strategy to grow its portfolio of businesses with strong community roots.

“Skunk River has a strong, grassroots history in Pella and its industry,” Ms. Jensen said. “We were honored to be considered as an option as the Van Hall family looked to transition the company to its next stage of ownership.”

Rayser Holdings was established in 2018 with a focus on diversifying and enhancing employee ownership. Skunk River Block & Pallet joins CarePro Health Services, J-TEC Associates and Midwest Memorials as part of the Rayser portfolio.
