Randy’s Flooring has acquired Advance Millwork, a North Liberty-based manufacturer of interior and exterior doors, wood trim and stair components, and announced plans to move the operation into a new 124,000-square-foot facility at 1125 240th Street in North Liberty.
The acquisition, completed in 2025, brings Advance Millwork — which has operated as a family-owned business for more than 60 years — into Randy’s Flooring’s employee-owned structure. The founding family had been planning for retirement and sought a transition that would preserve the company’s legacy and protect its workforce.
Dan Dombroski, general manager of Randy’s Flooring, said in a statement that local ownership remains central to both companies’ identities.
“Any well-established local business will tell you that the key to their success is the relationships they have built over the years,” Mr. Dombroski said. “Given the choice, most people want to work with a locally owned business because they know their money is staying in their community. That’s exactly what both Randy’s Flooring and Advance Millwork represent, and it’s something we take seriously.”
The new facility nearly doubles Advance Millwork’s current 66,000-square-foot production footprint. Mr. Dombroski said the existing building’s layout — the product of decades of incremental additions — has constrained production scheduling and storage capacity.
“The current facility is like a maze — the result of a company that kept growing for 50 years, building additions and running out of them,” he said. “The one thing I didn’t love about the current facility was how tight the production schedule was. We’re talking about starting production for a house on Monday and delivering its products Thursday.”
The expanded space is expected to allow the company to build and hold inventory rather than operate on such compressed timelines. Advance Millwork currently produces around 250 doors per day.
Advance Millwork has already added staff ahead of the move, including Jared Trolliet, who joined as manager to help guide the company’s growth.
“Advance Millwork is one of the oldest businesses in North Liberty, and it runs like a well-oiled machine,” Mr. Trolliet said. “It’s exciting to be part of an environment where we can bring on good people and contribute to the growth of our community at the same time.”
Mr. Dombroski said the investment is expected to improve working conditions, increase purchasing power through greater inventory capacity and drive higher sales.
“It’s a big investment, but I have no doubt the return will be even bigger,” he said.
