Oaknoll has announced a new nursing home expansion project in Iowa City, featuring sustainable design elements designed to provide additional skilled nursing care capacity.

The Oaknoll Small House will be located at 1201 W. Benton St., in the Bryn Mawr Heights neighborhood on the west side of Iowa City. It will feature 12 skilled nursing beds, natural light, geothermal heating and cooling, and solar panels on the roof, and will provide residents with opportunities for privacy and shared indoor and outdoor spaces.

“We are thrilled to expand our facilities to provide even better care for our residents,” Oaknoll CEO Steve Roe said in a release. “This expansion reflects our commitment to excellence and our dedication to meeting the needs of our community.”

Founded in 1966, Oaknoll is a not-for-profit LifeCare Life Plan community that has been a leader in skilled nursing care. It has earned a 5-star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services for more than 14 years, was named Senior Care’s Best in 2025 by WeCare Connect, and was awarded the Governor’s Award for Quality Care in a Health Care Facility in 2016.

Oaknoll is also offering opportunities for naming rights of the Small House and room sponsorships, allowing individuals or organizations to leave a lasting legacy while supporting a vital community resource.

Oaknoll collaborated with MidWestOne Bank, OPN Architecture, and DCI Group for the project, which will open in the summer of 2025.
