Northwestern Mutual promises $500k to Stead Family Children’s Hospital

Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa has made a new $500,000 promise to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.

This new goal was established after Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa funded its $100,000 promise it made to the children’s hospital in 2022. That $100,000 contribution allowed for the creation of two funds – The Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa Pediatric Oncology Research Fund and the Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa Pediatric Oncology Nursing Support Fund.

Together the two funds will contribute to the effort to find a cure for pediatric cancers and invest in the people who are doing the day-in and day-out care of patients.

“It has been inspiring to see the impact our support has made on the nurses at the hospital as well as within children’s cancer research,” said Kalvin Grabau Keele, managing partner of Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa, in a news release.

Each of the funds created serves its own purpose in providing direct impact on children. The primary goal of the Nursing Support Fund is to provide holistic long-term support to the nursing staff by investing in initiatives to improve morale and the overall culture and experience on the pediatric cancer floor. The Pediatric Oncology Research Fund will help provide the funding pediatric cancer research needs to accelerate new treatment breakthroughs.

“This hospital has a tremendous impact on families, and at Northwestern Mutual, we believe in the power of giving back to the community,” said Grabau Keele.

Since making the $500,000 promise, Northwestern Mutual Eastern Iowa has contributed $182,618 to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
