A new Chick-fil-A restaurant may be on its way to a busy portion of Blairs Ferry Road NE, just north of First Assembly of God.
A motion to set a public hearing for a rezoning request for the property, at 3233 and 3241 Blairs Ferry Road NE, is on the consent agenda for Tuesday’s Cedar Rapids City Council meeting.
A map included in the council packet, showing the area proposed for rezoning, shows a Chick-fil-A restaurant on the property located just north of the Radiant Church (formerly First Assembly of God) and along the south side of Blairs Ferry Road.
The rezoning request is set to be reviewed by the City Planning Commission Dec. 7, and the commission’s recommendation will be included in the documents for the public hearing Dec. 19, which will include public comments and the first reading of the rezoning ordinance.
The applicant, listed on council documents as First Assembly of God Church, is requesting to rezone 1.69 acres of land just north of the church to the Suburban Mixed Use Community Center Zone District, to allow for subdividing the property and developing the restaurant.
Chick-fil-A currently operates two other restaurants in the Cedar Rapids metro area, at 2610 Edgewood Road NW and 217 Collins Road NE, as well as a restaurant inside the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.
Headquartered in College Park, Georgia, Chick-fil-A operates 2,988 restaurants across 48 states, as well as in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
