Construction has begun on a new B-Bop’s location in northeast Cedar Rapids, company officials have confirmed.

The new location will be near the intersection of Edgewood and Blairs Ferry roads NE, near Fleet Farm.

Ground was broken for the project Monday, and the new location is expected to open in the spring of 2025, according to B-Bop’s director of operations John Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson said B-Bop’s had been looking at the site for a new location for about two years, and noted that “we are planning to build more there as well.”

“We are very much looking forward to being a part of the Cedar Rapids community, and we hope they are excited to have us there as well,” he said in an email to the CBJ. “It is a great city with wonderful people, and we will do our best to be a great partner with them and their city.”

The B-Bop’s burger chain, founded in 1988 and based in West Des Moines, currently has 10 locations in the Des Moines metro area and two locations in Ames.

At one time, B-Bop’s had three locations in the Corridor – on Edgewood Road SW near Westdale, on Blairs Ferry Road NE near Wal-Mart, and at the Coral Ridge Mall in Coralville.

B-Bop’s’ decor evokes a classic 1950s diner feel, and the Cedar Rapids location near Westdale frequently hosted drive-in classic car meets.

The company specializes in a simple menu focused on hamburgers, sandwiches, fries and milkshakes and has become known for their double-drive-through model.
