Supermarket retail chain Aldi is looking to grow its presence in the Corridor by building out a new location in North Liberty on the west side of Ranshaw Way.
The 20,664-square-foot Aldi store on 4.5 acres at 725 N Highway 965 would be near Dollar Tree and Dunkin' Donuts.
According to city staff, Aldi wants to begin construction this year and be open by next calendar year. Staff do not expect the development will use the entire lot.
City council approved the plan without comment unanimously June 13. Representatives for Aldi were not present at the meeting.
The news was first
reported by The Gazette last week when the North Liberty Planning & Zoning Commission forwarded the plan to council.
Water Tower Place
Council also approved a plan, titled Water Tower Place, that would build seven two-unit dwellings and one one-unit dwelling, for a total of 15 units.
Staff compared the development to a standard duplex project. It would be located west of North Kansas Avenue and south of North Madison Avenue.
Warehouse construction
A 9,360-square-feet warehouse on five acres will allow Diamond Ridge Construction to relocate and expand its footprint to a larger site, following council's initial approval June 13.
Diamond Ridge Construction is a roofing contractor based in North Liberty.
The warehouse will be located on the south side of Stoner Court and east of Herky Street.
