Mercy Iowa City

Joint replacement at Mercy Iowa City is among the top 10 percent in the nation, as measured by volume-weighted performance, according to this year’s evaluation from Healthgrades, a leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.

All joint and orthopedic procedures at Mercy Iowa City are performed by the orthopedic surgeons at Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, a partnership which began in 1945 by Dr. Arthur Steindler. Mercy Iowa City, in partnership with Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, is the only hospital in the state of Iowa to receive Healthgrades Joint Replacement Excellence Award in 2018.

Mercy Iowa City also received Five-Star recognition for Total Knee Replacement for 16 consecutive years (2003-2018) and Total Hip Replacement for 10 years in a row (2009-2018). Mercy Iowa City has also been recognized as a recipient of the Outstanding Patient Experience Award for 10 years in a row (2009-2017).

“Every member of the Mercy community contributes to making this hospital one where patients can depend not only on excellent clinical outcomes, but one where their stay is as comfortable and nurturing as it can be,” Shane Cerone, interim president and CEO, stated in a press release. ” I’m extremely proud of the team we have.”
