Leadership for Five Seasons program marks 40 years

Celebration event set June 1 at DoubleTree

Leadership for Five Seasons (LFS), a program of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, will celebrate its 40th anniversary June 1, and all alumni are invited to attend.

Since the program began in 1983, nearly 1,400 business professionals have passed through Leadership for Five Seasons, gaining lifelong skills that have benefited them personally and professionally.

“LFS empowers participants with a comprehensive understanding of our community’s challenges and opportunities, while also providing broader knowledge of our region and the role future leaders can play as engaged citizens,” Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance executive director Doug Neumann said in a release. “Seeing emerging leaders come through the LFS program and continuously engage with the community beyond graduation is one of the many reasons it has been successful the last four decades.”

The 40th anniversary celebration will include fun, food, and reflection on fond memories, as well as remarks from friends of LFS, including program founder, former Cedar Rapids mayor and Class of 1983 alum Lee Clancey.

The event will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in downtown Cedar Rapids June 1 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Registration is $60 per person, and a share of the proceeds from the event will go back to support the LFS Youth Program.

The Adult LFS program is a 10-month experience limited to 35 selected applicants each year that runs from August through May. Adult participants spend one Friday each month, outside of work, participating in customized leadership training and traveling within the city to learn about different aspects of the community.
