Karisa Mellinger, owner of Mama Llama’s Barn in downtown Washington, was named Washington’s Citizen of the Year at the The Greater Washington Annual Dinner on March 25.
“As a mother of six young children, she exemplifies the epitome of dedication and balance, seamlessly blending her roles as a small business owner of Mama Llama’s Barn in downtown Washington and also (and many may be surprised to hear) as a full-time accountant at the University of Iowa,” stated a news release from the Washington Chamber of Commerce.
“What sets Karisa apart is not just her remarkable ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and projects, but also her genuine passion for creating spaces that foster warmth and a sense of belonging. Mama Llama’s Barn stands as a testament to her vision of blending the needs of her family with her entrepreneurial spirit,” the news release continued.
Ms. Mellinger’s participation in the Washington community extends beyond her business ventures – she also organizes family events and fundraisers, including The Mama Llama’s Barn Easter Festival in March and Llamaween in October.
Mama Llama’s Barn, located at 124 Main St., is a family-centric boutique shop that sells “a little bit of everything,” including Lotus Energy drinks. In addition to her position as an accountant at University of Iowa, Ms. Mellinger is also an assistant dance teacher at Stairway to the Stars.
