Iowa City offering grants for community-led climate action

Iowa City is accepting applications for its Climate Action Grant program.

Iowa City is accepting applications for its Climate Action Grant program, with the objective to fund community-driven projects that tackle climate change and promote sustainability.

The initiative aims to empower students, businesses, and organizations to lead efforts that promote energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, climate resilience and other environmentally friendly practices.

Applications will be accepted from Monday, March 3 through 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 1.

Eligible projects must align with the goals outlined in Iowa City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and be completed between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026. Proposals will be evaluated based on greenhouse gas reduction, co-benefits and other key criteria.

Grants of up to $10,000 are available for businesses and organizations, while students in grades five through 12 can apply for grants up to $500. A total of $60,000 in funding will be distributed starting July 1.

The online application is available on the city’s website. An informational webinar will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, for interested applicants. Registration is available via Zoom.
