Iowa City Council special election scheduled for March 4

Iowa City voters will decide the next representative for the District C City Council seat in a special election set for March 4. The seat has been vacant since Andrew Dunn resigned effective Jan. 1.

Following a Feb. 4 primary election, two candidates remain in the race: Ross Nusser, owner and founder of Urban Acres Real Estate, and Oliver Weilein, a client support professional at Systems Unlimited.

Unlike the primary, which was open only to District C voters, the special election will allow all Iowa City residents to cast a ballot. District C covers downtown and north-central Iowa City.

The Iowa City Council consists of seven members – four at-large representatives elected by voters citywide and three district representatives chosen by residents within their respective districts.

Early voting began Feb. 13 and will continue through March 3 at the Johnson County Auditor’s Office, 913 S. Dubuque St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
