The Iowa Architectural Foundation is seeking nominations for its 2026 Community Enhancement Awards, an annual program honoring non-architects who improve the quality of life in Iowa through design, development and preservation.
The foundation is accepting submissions in two primary categories:
- Community Enhancement through Architecture and Design: Recognizes those bolstering high-quality architecture, urban design and community development.
- Community Enhancement through Historic Vitalization: Recognizes those advancing historic preservation, rehabilitation or revitalization projects.
“Great communities are shaped not only by architects, but also by the leaders, organizations and advocates who recognize the value of design and invest in the places where people live, work and gather,” Evan Shaw, chair of the Community Enhancement Awards Committee, said in a statement.
Past recipients include the University of Iowa, Drake University, Grinnell College, Principal Financial Group, the Greater Des Moines Partnership, the City of Des Moines and EMC Insurance.
Nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. June 30, 2026. A jury of architects and community representatives will review submissions, and winners will be notified by Aug. 17, 2026.
Nomination guidelines and forms are available at www.iowaarchfoundation.org/cea-2026.
