A multi-million dollar makeover of Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center is underway and expected to be completed by late summer.
The hotel is increasing its guest room count from 286 to 288 and is building out a Regency Club lounge with an expanded gym.
Guest rooms will have smart lighting, motion lighting, 55 inch smart TVs, and custom flooring, furniture, beds and desks. King rooms will include a chaise lounge.
Visitors interested in the new-look gym will have access to PelotonR bikes, and a family lounge, resurfaced pool and spa.

“This renovation will blend the brand’s sophisticated, contemporary design and culinary style with Iowa City’s rich arts, culture, and literary scene,” said Matt Traetow, general manager of Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center, in a statement. “As tourism continues to pick up in the city and nationally, more travelers are eager to combine business and leisure travel and we’re thrilled to offer best-in-class service with our newly renovated property.”
Hyatt Regency Coralville Hotel & Conference Center is owned by the city of Coralville and managed by the leading Midwest-based hotel operator, Marcus Hotels & Resorts, best known for Marcus Theaters.
Situated in the Iowa River Landing (IRL), the hotel rebranded from Marriot to Hyatt in fall 2021, and announced it would rebrand its in-house restaurant Edgewater Grille under a new name and concept.
It will now be named Watermill Kitchen + Bar and will include an outdoor patio, the hotel group announced April 25.
“The hotel and restaurant refresh will take this property to the next level and will serve as a showcase for the area offering amenities and experiences you can’t get anywhere else,” said Coralville City Administrator Kelly Hayworth in a statement. “It’s the only full-service hotel in the area, which means it’s ideal for those traveling for sports or performing arts events, as well as the increasing number of leisure travelers and remote workers who want a beautiful destination within walking distance of so much.”
Hyatt Regency will be adding an expanded cafe and marketplace to better accommodate the Iowa Writers' Library — a collection of University of Iowa Writer's Workshop graduates — and IRL Wetland Park.

Exisiting furniture no longer needed will be donated to Iowa City's Habitat for Humanity ReStore and Houses into Homes. The hotel and conference center will remain open for normal operations during renovation.
Marcus Hotels & Resorts owns and/or manages 16 hotels, resorts and other properties in the U.S. The company’s portfolio includes city-center meeting hotels, upscale resorts and historic properties.
The Coralville Hyatt was the first Hyatt Regency hotel in Iowa.
