Iowa State Fairgoers will have an opportunity to receive a COVID-19 vaccination at the Iowa State Fairgrounds this year, courtesy of the Hy-Vee pharmacy team.
According to Hy-Vee Inc., COVID-19 vaccination clinics will be offered at the Iowa State Fair from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 12-22. There is no appointment necessary to receive either vaccine. Hy-Vee pharmacy team members will be at Booth 40050 between the Grand Avenue gate and the Elwell Family Food Center on the west side of the fairgrounds to offer the free vaccinations. Vaccinations will be given inside Hy-Vee Healthy You mobile clinic units, and each COVID-19 vaccine recipient must stay in the observation area for 15 minutes after they receive their vaccine. Flu vaccines also will be offered pending availability.
Individuals will have the option to receive Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is available to individuals 12 years of age and older. Janssen vaccines are available for individuals 18 years of age and older, and require a single-dose injection. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires two doses that should be administered at least 21 days apart. Minors must have parental/guardian consent to receive the vaccine. Individuals who receive their first dose at the Iowa State Fair can receive their second dose at any Hy-Vee Pharmacy location.
It is recommended that vaccine recipients bring the following: insurance card, Medicare Part B red, white and blue card, and photo ID. Masks are required. If individuals do not have insurance, they can still be vaccinated.

Individuals who complete their COVID-19 vaccination with Hy-Vee between June 1-Nov. 1 can receive a $10 Hy-Vee gift card. Each patient who receives a flu vaccine at a Hy-Vee Pharmacy can earn a 20-cent Hy-Vee Fuel Saver reward, which can be redeemed at any Hy-Vee Gas, Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh Express, or Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh location.
