HallMar Village hosting ribbon cutting, dedication ceremony

Mercy Medical Center, in partnership with Presbyterian Homes & Services (PHS), will celebrate the opening of the new HallMar Village senior living and care community with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2. A public grand opening is planned for the spring.

The new senior living community, located at 8900 C Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids, provides a full range of housing and services for older adults. The adanced, medically integrated community also includes innovative, specialized care for those living with dementia.

HallMar Village is situated on 42 acres of land. Senior Housing Partners, the project development arm of PHS, was the project developer.

HallMar Village includes independent living, assisted living and memory care, as well as an expansive village center with a chapel; dedicated community room; conservatory with plants and natural light year-round; restaurant-style dining and a casual bistro; state-of-the-art wellness center; salon/spa and a theater. Outdoor features include patios, gardening space and walking trails.

The community is connected, via an enclosed link, to The Chris & Suzy DeWolf Family Innovation Center for Aging and Dementia. The DeWolf family provided the $2 million lead gift for the project. Lead gifts for HallMar Village senior living and care community included $1.5 million from Wayne and Nan Kocourek and $1 million from Bruce and Judy McGrath.

HallMar Village replaced Mercy’s Hallmar residential care facility, which opened in 1960 at Mercy Medical Center. Those residents moved to the Dorothy McGrath Neighborhood within HallMar Village after their new home was blessed on Sept. 22.

Nearly all of the former Hallmar employees have transitioned into employment as part of the HallMar Village partnership with Presbyterian Homes & Services.
