U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, announced Monday that Hands Jewelers of Johnson County is her Small Business of the Week.

Sen. Ernst, who chairs the Senate Small Business Committee, plans to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout the 119th Congress.

Hands Jewelers is a rock-solid example of the enduring strength of Iowa small businesses,” Ernst said. “For more than a century, the Nusser family has demonstrated a diamond standard of excellence in their craftsmanship, innovation, and community engagement, helping generations of Iowans celebrate life’s most meaningful moments. They are a true Iowa City gem.”

John Hands opened the first jewelry store in Iowa City shortly after moving there in 1893, which later became Hands Jewelers. The business is soon entering its fifth generation of family ownership and is known for providing high-quality jewelry and personalized service. It has helped customers commemorate milestones, including engagements, weddings, anniversaries and family traditions, for over a century.
