Dr. Timothy Quinn will retire as president and CEO of Mercy Medical Center on April 3, Mercy announced Monday, Feb. 3.

Dr. Quinn has served more than two decades at Mercy as both a family physician and administrative leader. After stepping down from executive leadership, he will continue seeing patients at MercyCare and focus on initiatives involving emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence applications, to improve patient care.

“Under Dr. Quinn’s leadership, our hospital strengthened its mission, implemented initiatives to help us strategically grow, and positioned itself for a strong future,” said Nancy Kasparek, chair of the Mercy Board of Trustees. “We have been privileged to work alongside a CEO who never lost sight of the people behind the numbers – patients, families, and caregivers.”

Dr. Quinn replaced Timothy Charles as president and CEO Feb. 1, 2023. During his tenure, Mercy Cedar Rapids expanded access to care across the region, developed new facilities and services, and strengthened clinical quality, patient safety and operational performance, according to the announcement.

A national search will be launched to find Mercy’s next president and CEO.

In the meantime, Greg DeWolf, executive vice president and chief operating officer, will serve as interim president and CEO. Mr. DeWolf has more than 30 years of health care experience, including nine years at Mercy. He previously held federal health care leadership positions during a 22-year career in the U.S. Air Force and holds an MBA from the University of Iowa.
