CSPS Hall has named Heather Kuchar Sams as its next executive director, the Cedar Rapids arts nonprofit announced Tuesday, July 28.
Ms. Sams started in the role earlier this month following a search by the CSPS Board of Directors.
Ms. Sams will oversee the organization’s strategic direction, financial sustainability and community partnerships. She has decades of experience in nonprofit management and organizational development, according to the announcement.
She joins Anna Patty, development and communications manager, and Catherine Lane, performing arts manager, on CSPS Hall’s core leadership team.
“I fell in love with CSPS the moment I moved to Cedar Rapids,” Ms. Sams said. “I’m honored to join an organization with such a rich history and passionate supporters. I look forward to working alongside our talented team, board, artists, volunteers, and community partners to continue expanding access to exceptional arts experiences while ensuring CSPS Hall remains a welcoming place where creativity and community thrive.”
Ms. Sams’ hiring follows a leadership transition at CSPS Hall that began earlier this year, when the organization parted ways with then-Executive Director Jason Zbornik. Board member Paul Julius had served as interim executive director while the board conducted its search. The transition coincided with CSPS Hall reaching the $300,000 goal for its State of the Art Capital Campaign, aided by a gift from Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust.
CSPS Board Chair Adam Burger said Ms. Sams’ arrival builds on that momentum.
“Heather is another sign of progress and growth for CSPS,” Mr. Burger said. “The board is thrilled to have her bolster what is already a strong team. We know Heather will guide us toward a future where we double down on our role as both a beacon and an advocate for the arts, community, and culture in Eastern Iowa.”
CSPS Hall, located in Cedar Rapids’ NewBo District, has presented visual art, music, theatre and dance for more than three decades.
