Beginning June 16, the City of Cedar Rapids and Linn County declared businesses are now able to apply for American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.

Half of the $44 million in eligible ARPA funds were allocated in April and split three ways: $11 million was spent on lost revenue and administrative costs incurred by Linn County, $5.5 million for affordable housing and social services initiatives and $5.5 million toward water and sewer infrastructure projects.

$3 million in ARPA money this round will again go toward affordable housing and social services.

Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell said all rejected round one applications will be moved for round two consideration, unless otherwise ruled ineligible.

New applications can be submitted at cr-linnarpa.org. All applications are due by July 15 and funding recommendations will be presented during an August city council meeting.

“We certainly appreciate the continued collaboration and commitment for the county and our local nonprofits,” said Ms. O’Donnell during an early morning news conference. “Through these partnerships, we can successfully meet the needs of all residents.”

Cedar Rapids ARPA funds are part of a federal relief package designed to address inequities and challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
