bill-daly-rgbAge: 33

Occupation: Attorney and Vice President, Shuttleworth & Ingersoll PLC

What do you consider your greatest professional accomplishments?
Becoming partner as well as being fortunate to work at a great law firm and be involved with community organizations.

What would most people be surprised to learn about you?
I am the youngest of five children and that even though I am vertically challenged, I am a pretty competitive basketball player.

What do you know now that you wish you had known earlier in your career?
Time really does fly. Take every unique opportunity afforded to you.

How do you ensure a balance between work and your personal life?
When I am home with my family, I try to be “present” with them, which means the phone is down, I am not checking email, Twitter, etc. Also, I’ve made a conscious decision that I’d rather work late during the week and be present during the weekends then having to work on Saturday and Sunday so I do my best to not work on the weekends and if I do, I do it remotely.

What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace?
I think there is a perception that we don’t want to work hard or long hours, but I think that isn’t necessarily the case. We will work hard and long hours for causes and for companies that show they value our work, want us to be involved in decisions and leadership and value the effort and work we do outside the office for our community.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
Coaching.

Who are your local mentors?
Brian Bergstrom, Dennis McMenimen and Gary Streit, all attorneys at Shuttleworth & Ingersoll PLC.
