Big Grove Brewery will host a grand opening Thursday, May 21, at its new taproom in The Shops of Prairie Village, marking the Iowa-based craft brewer’s sixth location and second outside its home state.
The first 300 guests on opening day will receive a limited-edition frosted glass, and one winner will receive free beer for a year. Other giveaways and family-friendly activities — including ice cream and face painting — will be offered throughout the day. The taproom begins welcoming customers Tuesday, May 19.
Big Grove transformed a former department store in The Shops of Prairie Village into a taproom with an outdoor patio and gathering space. The new location features a private event room, a menu drawing on local Kansas City flavors and the brewery’s award-winning beers, along with wine, spirits, Climbing Kites THC-infused sparkling waters, mocktails and non-alcoholic options. The brewery plans to begin on-site brewing this summer.
“We’re beyond excited to welcome everyone to this stunning new taproom in Prairie Village,” said Andrew Loudon, store director at Big Grove in Prairie Village. “Whenever Big Grove joins a community, our goal is always to make it an even better place by creating a welcoming ‘third space’ and to make it theirs. We plan to bring that same energy and growth mindset to Prairie Village.”
Beer offerings at opening will include flagship Easy Eddy Hazy IPA, Citrus Surfer and Neighborhood Beer lager, alongside locally inspired brews.
Big Grove started as a 3.5-barrel brewhouse in Solon in 2013. The company expanded to Iowa City in 2017, Des Moines in July 2022 and Cedar Rapids in December 2023. The Omaha location — Big Grove’s first outside Iowa — opened in September 2025 in the Catalyst development near the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
The Prairie Village location is the first new tenant to open at the redeveloped former Macy’s site at The Shops of Prairie Village, with regular hours of 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Big Grove’s nonprofit arm, Big Grove For Good Foundation, will extend its grant programs into the Prairie Village and greater Kansas City area. The foundation administers an annual grant program and a Neighborhood Beer micro-grant initiative focused on environmental sustainability, social equity and community development.
Big Grove ranks among Iowa’s top beer producers and is in the top 60 nationally for barrel production. The brewery holds multiple craft brewing honors, including a Great American Beer Festival gold medal for Easy Eddy Hazy IPA, a silver World Beer Cup award for its non-alcoholic Zero Eddy, and additional GABF medals for Citrus Surfer and Festbier, a Bavarian-style Märzen.
Two of Big Grove’s locations – in Iowa City and Des Moines – have achieved platinum level certification from the Iowa Green Brewery Certification (IGBC) program. The IGBC is a component of the Food, Beverage and Organics program of the Iowa Waste Reduction Center at the University of Northern Iowa, which awards certifications to Iowa craft breweries that have implemented sustainable practices within their facilities and brewing operations.
