As Cedar Rapids’ Especially for You Race Against Breast Cancer prepares for its 29th edition on Oct. 6, the longevity and success of the event can be attributed to staff, corporate sponsors and participants having a “tremendous amount of passion” for the cause, said race director Jeff Decker.
Making its sixth consecutive appearance on the Best of list, this October tradition not only raises money for breast cancer screenings, but serves to educate individuals on the importance of early detection. The money raised stays local to help those in need of breast and gynecological cancer screenings and diagnostic tests. According to the EFY website, funds have been directed to more than 6,400 people since 2008.
“It is truly inspiring to see neighbors helping neighbors,” said Mr. Decker.
