Best Trucking Company: Don Hummer Trucking

FIRST TIME ON LIST

Being voted the Corridor’s Best Trucking Company for the first time is a big honor for Don Hummer Trucking — one that President Chris Hummer attributes to the company’s drive to give back.

Don Hummer Trucking often volunteers its rigs for events that honor the sacrifice of America’s veterans like Wreaths Across America and shuttling the replica Vietnam Veterans Memorial for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. Equipment is loaned out to the Iowa Children’s Museum for its annual Move It – Do It – Dig It event, Linn Mar Community School’s Careers on Wheels Day and for Truckers Against Trafficking’s annual appearance at the Iowa State Fair.

“It all probably raises awareness of the company here locally,” Mr. Hummer said of the company’s many volunteer activities.

Being a hit with customers doesn’t hurt, either. Don Hummer Trucking won the Spirit of Excellence Award from Hormel Foods for 2017 and 2018, and has been honored for service excellence by HNI Corp. of Muscatine for several years running.

Don Hummer made news recently for its relocation from Oxford to a new corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids that provided enough space to co-locate the company’s LTI Delivers logistics unit. After the 2018 acquisition of an Omaha-based trucking company that increased its capacity by 15 percent, Don Hummer Trucking has about 350 trucks, 950 trailers, and 425 employees and contract drivers, and has operating centers and driver terminals in Homestead, Shawnee, Kansas, and Omaha, Nebraska.
