What’s the best advice you ever received: One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was, “Don’t forget that every single decision you make affects people, whether it’s patients, employees, volunteers or the community. It’s easy to get caught up in the numbers and dollar signs of the bottom line. Don’t forget that health care is about people.”

What would most people be surprised to learn about you: Most people would be surprised to learn that during my summers of undergrad, I worked on the front line of a continuous caster in a steel mill.

How do you ensure a balance between work and your personal life: I believe there is a not a true balance between my work and my personal life. It’s about choices and flexibility. You have to know what’s important during a particular week or month and plan from there.

What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace: People should know that my generation is driven, hardworking and will move organizations or career paths for a greater challenge.

If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support: I would give to nonprofits that I believe in, including, but not limited to: my church, the University of Iowa Dance Marathon, Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, AmeriCorps and organizations involved in disaster recovery.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt: Other than my current profession, I would like to travel to various national parks to work as a guide, own a floral shop, become a master chef and create my own stationary.

Who are your local mentors: Terry Donahue, a city of North Liberty councilmember and mayor pro tempore.
