What would most people be surprised to learn about you?

I have OCD [obsessive-compulsive disorder]. It is clear the person who came up with the acronym OCD did not have it, because if they did, they would have named it alphabetically, CDO.

What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why?

A lack of affordable high-quality childcare providers in the area, especially for second and third shift workers. Linn County has lost 41 percent of its childcare providers in the last five years and this impacts families, especially women in single-parent households. Not only is this a family issue, but a major workforce issue, particularly when there is already low unemployment in our economic region and state.

If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support?

Early childhood education and Court Appointed Special Advocates for children in the foster care system. Eighty-five percent of a child’s brain development occurs before age 5. The research overwhelmingly shows that a child’s early childhood experience has a lifelong impact on school achievement, family stability and economic success. However, state education budgets are woefully underfunded and primarily directed to the K-12 school system.

What should people know about your generation in the workplace?

As an Xennial we experience the world of work and technology in unique ways. As someone who knows how to use a card catalog and Encyclopedia Britannica as proficiently as Google and Wikipedia, my unique generation of Xennials can remember a childhood without technology yet can easily adapt to technological advances.
