The Amana Colonies Bakery & Cafe will soon be opening a location at the NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids.

Owner Victoria Kirby and her husband Dan made the announcement Thursday on the bakery’s Facebook page.

“The time has come for the BIG announcement!” the announcement said. “We are excited to announce that Amana Colonies Bakery and Cafe is coming to NewBo City Market! We are beyond excited and blessed to have the opportunity to bring fresh baked pastries, pies, cookies and bread along with many other handmade goodies to the Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. Look for Amana Colonies Bakery @ the Market coming in May! We can’t wait to see everyone!”

The Amana Colonies Bakery & Cafe was founded in 1981, according to Pitchbook, and continues to operate at 4522 220th Trail in Amana, offering a variety of breads, cookies, cakes, pastries and sandwiches, along with a gift shop.

The NewBo City Market celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2022.

When the market opened its doors in 2012, it served as a community anchor with access to healthy food to help revitalize the neighborhood which was devastated by the flood of 2008.

Over the years the market, has created a thriving business incubator program serving dozens of start-up entrepreneurs in the Corridor. It is now home to individually owned businesses ranging from prepared food to retail to service-based companies.

The entrepreneurs at the market are representative of a wide and diverse cross-section of the community’s residents. Additionally, nearly 300 events are hosted each year on the market’s yard or inside Rotary Hall, making it a natural gathering space where all are welcome.
