As part of its City Steps 2030 plan, Iowa City is requesting public input on affordable housing, community development, and economic development needs in the city over the next five years.
Residents are invited to provide feedback at a series of public meetings that will focus on determining how federal funds will be spent to best benefit low-to-moderate income households.
“Those who are most impacted by the use of these funds will provide important perspectives to the discussion,” a release from the city stated.
In the next two weeks, meetings will be held in the following locations:
- NCJC – Pheasant Ridge Neighborhood Center, 2651 Roberts Road, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.
- Escucha Mi Voz – Saint Patrick Church, 4330 Saint Patrick’s Drive, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.
- NCJC – Broadway Neighborhood Center, 2015 Broadway Street, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 1.
City Steps 2030 is part of the city’s fiscal year 2026-2030 consolidated plan. Each year, Iowa City receives Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
The plan helps improve the housing and living conditions of its residents, especially those households with low-to-moderate income, people experiencing homelessness, and persons with special needs.
To continue receiving CDBG and HOME funds, the city must identify and prioritize needs within the community and explain how these funds will address those needs. The participation of impacted residents is crucial for creating a plan that accurately reflects the needs of Iowa City residents.
In addition to the public meetings, a series of stakeholder sessions will be held the same week to gather community feedback from local partners and agencies. All these events will be held at Emma Harvat Hall at City Hall, 410 E. Washington St.
