Cedar Rapids will continue to host the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship through 2030 after the National Junior College Athletic Association announced a three-year extension of its partnership with Cedar Rapids Tourism.
The championship will remain at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse in downtown Cedar Rapids, which has served as the venue for the event and its participating student athletes, coaches and fans.
The extension continues the partnership between the NJCAA, Cedar Rapids Tourism, Kirkwood Community College and the Alliant Energy PowerHouse.
“Cedar Rapids Tourism is excited to extend our agreement with the NJCAA, in partnership with Kirkwood Community College to host the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship through 2030,” Jay Fanta, director of sports tourism at Cedar Rapids Tourism, said. “We look forward to working with the NJCAA to put on a great championship and welcoming teams from across the country, which will have a significant impact on our area hotels, restaurants and local attractions.”
Riann Mullis, NJCAA Division II Volleyball chair, said the extension reflects the quality of the experience the partnership has delivered.
“We are excited to see the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship remain in Cedar Rapids through 2030,” Ms. Mullis said. “The continued partnership speaks to the great experience provided for student athletes, coaches, and fans each year.”
Brett Monaghan, NJCAA vice president for sport operations and championships, credited the local partners for the long-standing relationship.
“Cedar Rapids has proven to be an excellent location for this championship,” Mr. Monaghan said. “Jay and his team, along with the staff at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse, are great partners of the NJCAA, and this extension speaks to that. Our office looks forward to continuing to work alongside them to provide a great student-athlete experience.”
The annual championship brings together programs from across the country to compete for a national title. The NJCAA noted the event generates economic impact for the host community through hotel stays, dining, tourism and entertainment spending.
