DICK’S House of Sport will celebrate a grand opening for its new House of Sport location at Lindale Mall next week, featuring athlete appearances from two former University of Iowa standouts and a slate of in-store events spanning three days.

The store, at 4600 First Ave. NE, held a soft opening Wednesday, June 3.

DICK’S has operated a large sporting goods store at 4601 First Ave. SE, across the street from Lindale Mall, since August 2006. That site is now closed, and DICK’S operations have moved to the Lindale store.

    Grand opening festivities begin Friday, June 12, with a media preview from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Regular store hours run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The 120,000-square-foot store — more than twice the size of a traditional DICK’S Sporting Goods store — features a climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators, and HitTrax multi-sport cages that can be used for baseball, softball and soccer. It also features an attached athletic field that can be used for open play, clinics or as league space.

The store employs roughly 200 people.

Former Iowa Hawkeyes forward Hannah Stuelke will appear Saturday, June 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Former Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean will appear Sunday, June 14, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Wristbands, required for both appearances, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at store opening each day. Talent will sign only player cards provided by DICK’S; no outside items will be accepted.

Ms. Stuelke completed four seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball program, recording 1,565 career points — 14th all-time in program history — along with 910 rebounds, 229 assists, 113 steals and 49 blocks. She recently signed her first professional contract.

Mr. DeJean was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 40 overall pick. He helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LIX and scored a pick-six in his first championship appearance in the NFL.

Additional grand opening programming includes a “DICK’S Vault” experience with chances to win prizes and collectibles, an expression lab with shoe charm customization, laser engraving and tote personalization, mystery gift cards for the first 100 adults in line each morning, DSG soccer ball giveaways for the first 100 children in line each morning, and doorbuster deals and sweepstakes throughout the weekend.

The project carried a minimum investment of $25 million and involved the redevelopment of the former Sears store at Lindale Mall. Shops at Cedar Rapids LLC, a Dallas-based development company, purchased the vacant Sears building in January 2024 for $3.4 million and recruited DICK’S House of Sport to occupy the space.

The city approved a 10-year, 100 percent rebate of increased taxes generated by the project, which is expected to generate $4.9 million in total taxes over that period, of which $3.3 million would be rebated to the company.

The Cedar Rapids location is the second DICK’S House of Sport in Iowa. A House of Sport opened in Davenport in July 2023.

The company recorded $14.1 billion in sales in 2025 and plans to open upwards of 40 new House of Sport locations by the close of 2028.
