Starting July 1, University of Iowa president Barbara Wilson will earn $760,000 a year, following the Iowa Board of Regents’ decision to bump her annual base salary by $60,000. The decision was announced at the regents’ June 13 meeting, following personnel evaluations performed during closed sessions Tuesday and Wednesday. Iowa State University president Wendy Wintersteen received an identical pay raise, bumping her annual salary to $710,000. University of Northern Iowa president Mark Nook will get a $25,000 boost to his current salary of $357,110, which has remained consistent since his hiring in 2016. Additionally, his employment agreement and $100,000 deferred compensation plan were extended to 2027. The salary increase marks the third raise for Ms. Wilson in three years. In 2021, her inaugural year, Ms. Wilson was earning $600,000, the Board of Regents beefing up her salary each year by $50,000, making her the highest-earning president out of all three regent universities. The board passed the proposed pay upgrades unanimously, following a decision to approve tuition and mandatory fee hikes for students at all three universities beginning this fall.
