University of Iowa moves to cut six programs, two departments amid enrollment declines

    The University of Iowa is moving to eliminate several undergraduate programs and two departments, citing enrollment figures that fall below thresholds established under the Iowa Board of Regents’ Workforce Alignment Review.

    The majors include:

    • African American Studies
    • Gender, Women’s, and Sexuality Studies
    • Applied Physics
    • Classical Languages
    • Italian
    • Russian

    The university also plans to shutter the African American World Studies graduate program, and made the request during the Feb.…
