University of Iowa Health Care offers ALS Care in Des Moines

Patients diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, are now able to receive care in Des Moines thanks to a collaboration between three of the state’s largest health networks.

UI Health Care, UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and Mercy Medical Center Des Moines have come together in collaboration to provide a unique clinic experience at a location that increases access for central Iowa patients.

The multidisciplinary clinic, the second of its kind for UI Health Care, provides on-site care from experts on ALS, including neuromuscular physicians, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, nutrition, respiratory therapy, counseling and genetic counseling.

The ALS outreach clinic occurs on the first Monday of each month and will be held in the new UI Health Care building, located at 8605 Chambery Blvd. in Johnston.

Patients and families can contact the University of Iowa Health Care ALS program at (319) 356-8958.
