UnityPoint Hospice grief camp helps children cope with death

UnityPoint Health in Cedar Rapids

UnityPoint Hospice is hosting Camp Embracing Memories, a camp for area children who are coping with the death of a loved one, on July 8.

The camp will be held 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca, 3271 Sandy Beach Road NE, Solon. Meals will be provided. Registration for the event is open.

The camp is one of many projects and events UnityPoint Hospice has to educate young people on grief. The camp is free and open to children between the ages of 7 to 16.

Designed to help children effectively cope with loss in a safe and accepting environment, activities focus on the grieving process, encouraging interaction with others who have experienced similar losses.

Trained hospice staff and volunteers provide education and support to enhance coping skills and abilities, while still allowing children to feel connected to the loved one who died.
