A request for qualification (RFQ) from the University of Iowa shows the healthcare system intends to renovate the current neurology clinic situated within the Roy J. Carver Pavilion. The project, budgeting $7 million in costs for a likely $4.9 million construction price tag, calls for adding more exam rooms where faculty office space exists. The new outpatient area will include 11 exam rooms, conference and huddle space and a team workroom.
UIHC expect the expansion will "allow more patients with neurological disease to be seen sooner" and better accomodate patients with disabilities, as well as provide more privacy for patients and their family members, according to the request.
Internal demolition will lead to replacing the existing air handling unit that services the space.Faculty and administrative support spaces will be relocated to level two of the general hospital.Bidding on the project is expected to take place in April 2024 after final design review in February, with construction beginning in September 2024 and ending in May 2025. The university will recommend an Iowa-based professional design firm to the Board of Regents to handle project details regarding the neurology clinic.
Project costs include construction, furniture, medical equipment, fees and contingencies.
In February, UIHC invited bids to expand its burn treatment center. That plan calls for additional inpatient rooms and an outpatient clinic on the eighth floor of the John Collotin Pavilion.
