University of Iowa Health Care (UIHC) is seeking request for qualifications from architecture design firms to expand Iowa's only burn treatment center.
The
center, which includes a 17-bed critical and intermediate care inpatient unit and is verified by the American Burn Association, is looking to add additional inpatient rooms and an outpatient clinic on the eighth floor of the
John Collotin Pavilion by expanding into vacated mechanical space, according to RFQ documents.
UIHC is targeting 9,500-square-feet of renovated and expanded space plus 12,000-square-feet of aesthetic upgrades with the expansion.
A new outpatient clinic will include exam rooms, a procedure room, waiting area and support spaces.
UIHC hopes construction will begin in October and end Oct. 2024.
The hospital says construction will be phased to "accomodate continual operation of the existing burn treatment inpatient center throughout the duration of the project."
Construction would consist of demolition of doors, partitions, finishes, miscellaneous mechanical equipment and construction of complete interiors.
UIHC's burn treatment center is one 64 burn centers in the U.S. verified by the American Burn Association. It currently includes a critical and intermediate care inpatient unit, emergency, outpatient care, telemedicine capabilities and rehabilitation facilities.
A preliminary scope and floor plan was developed by UIHC Capital Management, with S/L/A/M as lead consultant on the project last summer.
