UCS Healthcare has announced the expansion of its medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services in Iowa.

The new office — which opened on Aug. 19 — is located at 430 Southgate Avenue in Iowa City, within the Community & Family Resources treatment center. The office was made possible by an opioid response grant from the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (IHHS).

As stated in a news release from UCS Healthcare, the expansion is part of the organization’s efforts to increase access to evidence-based treatment for individuals with substance use disorders, particularly opioid dependence.

The Iowa City facility is the latest addition to UCS Healthcare’s network of MAT locations across the state.

“We are extremely proud to add Iowa City to our existing list of fourteen medication-assisted treatment locations around the state,” said Jen Pearson, Chief Executive Officer of UCS Healthcare, in the release. “Our partnerships with organizations like Community and Family Resources in Iowa City enhance access to the gold standard of care for opioid use disorder.”

Features of the new Iowa City MAT office include:

  • Comprehensive Care: Combines psychosocial therapy with FDA-approved medication for opioid use disorder (OUD).
  • Increased Accessibility: Expands access to underserved and high-risk populations in Iowa City.
  • Community Collaboration: Leverages partnerships with local organizations to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Proven Effectiveness: MAT significantly reduces illicit opioid use and overdose fatalities compared to non-drug approaches.
