Doug Alberhasky, owner of John’s Grocery in Iowa City, is one of three recipients of the inaugural Iowa Ambassador of Craft award from the Iowa Brewers Guild (IBG).

The award recognizes individuals who have shown exemplary industry leadership in Iowa, such as a pioneering craft brewer, a strong community builder and brewing mentors. Organizations who have shown collective leadership, such as an industry-leading brewery, an exemplary craft beer retailer, or an allied partner or organization are also considered for the honor.

The three winners reflect community building, dedication to their craft, and leadership that has supported the whole industry. The other two winners are Jess Klembara, founder of Scars are Beautiful and marketing director of Confluence Brewing, Des Moines, and Megan McKay, owner and founder of Peace Tree Brewing Company, Knoxville.

“The Iowa craft brewing industry continues to grow and mature,” said Noreen Otto, Iowa Brewers Guild executive director. “The guild knew it was time to recognize the leadership and efforts of those who have gotten us here and who are continuing to us move forward.”

The Iowa Brewers Guild exists to unify craft brewing professionals, promote Iowa beer, and advocate for the industry’s growth. For more information on the IBG, visit IowaBeer.org.
