Thompson Truck & Trailer has announced that after 25 years as a local, family-owned company, the dealership group is joining Ascendance Truck Centers as of February 2025.
A release indicates the transition “combines a legacy of excellence with a vision for the future, fusing tradition with innovation and positions the organization to continue to be the premium one-stop solution for all commercial truck and trailer needs.”
This acquisition includes 145 employees across all five Thompson Truck & Trailer dealership locations – Cedar Rapids, Davenport, Dubuque, Waterloo, and Sterling, Illinois. It also includes the Thompson Body Shop and Thompson Trailer Shop, both located in Cedar Rapids.
Thompson Tire & Retread is not included in this sale and will continue to operate independently, so tire customers will experience no changes.
Ascendance is an emerging commercial truck & trailer network with 42 locations in 10 states (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio, Iowa, and Illinois).
The core team at Thompson Truck & Trailer will remain on board under the new Ascendance ownership.
“Supporting our customers continues to be of the utmost importance,” said Spencer Miller, director of operations for Ascendance Truck Centers. “By combining Thompson’s deep-rooted history and experience with the vast network of Ascendance, the dealer group will be able to offer an expanded range of products and services, as well as enhanced support that comes with a nationwide dealership of scale. This means additional truck allocation, vast parts inventories, additional tools and training for our team.
“We are confident that this acquisition will strengthen our ability to serve you better and bring new opportunities for us to grow together,” Mr. Miller added. “We look forward to continuing to work with you.”
Thompson Truck & Trailer is a full-service commercial truck dealership founded by Dennis Thompson in 1998.
