The Eat Shop has added a fifth location, bringing its sweet and savory offerings to Coralville at 104 E. 7th St.
Located in the Iowa River Landing, the cafe offers a variety of sandwiches on freshly baked bread, cookies, brownies, croissants, cinnamon rolls and other baked goods – plus specialty drinks. The spacious business includes glittering chandeliers, a long counter, and plenty of seating. There is also a small patio area on the west side of the building.
Inspired by the women in her family, founder and CEO Cheryl Maloney opened the first location of The Eat Shop in Solon in 2021, the second and third on the University of Iowa campus (the Boyd Law Building and the College of Public Health) in 2023 and 2024, and the fourth location in Marion in 2025.
Ms. Maloney said that all the women in her family were regular bakers, but she was especially inspired by her Great Aunt Mary Ann, who owned her own restaurant in Cedar Rapids, opening Mary Ann’s Eat Shop in 1936. The business was located at 1531 1st Ave. SE, and offered a full menu.
The Eat Shop staff celebrated the new shop’s grand opening on May 9, and Greater Iowa City, Inc., joined the cafe’s employees for a ribbon-cutting on May 12.
Still getting set up, the Coralville location of The Eat Shop is now hiring for full- and part-time positions including bakers, baristas and cashiers.
