Taste of Iowa City 2023 postponed

Taste of Iowa City

Taste of Iowa City, presented by MidWestOne Bank, returns to Downtown Iowa City next Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. The culinary event originally scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 23, has moved to Aug. 29 due to excessive heat warnings.

Excessive heat warnings are in effect for Johnson County until 9 p.m. on Aug. 30.

The 15th annual Taste of Iowa City celebrates the culinary diversity of Downtown and Northside Iowa City restaurants by welcoming and introducing attendees to sample-sized portions available from over 50 local restaurants.

Participating restaurants will be set up outside in front of their businesses where attendees can trade in their tickets for samples of delicious food. This popular outdoor event is fun for everyone to attend and is easy to enjoy with a wide variety of food to sample in addition to free entertainment throughout the evening.

Tickets are $1 apiece and will be sold in strips of 5. Attendees can purchase tickets during the event at any of the six ticket booths located throughout Downtown or the Northside Marketplace.

Only cash and Venmo will be accepted at the ticket booths during the event. Tickets are available to pre-purchase in advance at the MidWestOne Bank location downtown at 102 S Clinton St. or via the Downtown Iowa City Market online site.

Tickets purchased online will be available for pick-up only at the Iowa City Downtown District office located at 103 E. College St. #200 in the Pedestrian Mall.

“This is a great opportunity for new students to see what Downtown has to offer with sample portions from a diverse range of menus,” said Christopher Hawkins, the associate director of Student Engagement & Campus Programs at the University of Iowa, in a release. “(The) Campus Activities Board, Undergraduate Student Government, and Graduate & Student Professional Government are excited to give out a limited number of free tickets to students for this event. To get free tickets, students can show their student ID at the University of Iowa booth on the Pentacrest.”

This event announced its rescheduled date, due to weather for Aug. 29, but participants, programming, and event schedule will remain as planned. The rescheduled date is supported and recommended by the Johnson County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service, and Johnson County Public Safety.
