Development Director Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity AGE: 35 What was your first job? Cleaning and customer service at a tropical fish and pet shop. Best advice you ever received? Give yourself grace.  What do you consider your biggest break so far? Making a lateral move into fundraising with no formal fundraising education or training. I was fortunate to have co-workers who encouraged me to apply for a fundraising position.  What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I enjoy a wide range of music, almost anything from classical to heavy metal. When I am trying to focus on work, going for a jog, cleaning my house, etc., my go-to band is System of a Down, a metal band. What’s the biggest issue facing the Corridor, and why? Too many children and families in the Corridor are struggling to find access to food, shelter, health care and more. Households struggle with stability and crisis when their basic needs are unmet. If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? Affordable housing, education and immigration/refugee assistance. What are your passions outside of the workplace? I’m a third generation Chicago Cubs fan working hard to raise fourth generation Cubs fans in my household (my husband is a Cardinals fan. Boo!). I love music and enjoy singing and watching musicals with my children. I am fascinated by languages, anything from linguistics to language acquisition to language pathology. What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace? Millennials have a strong desire for joy and meaning in their work. What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50?  One goal I have is to become a CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) in the next five years.
