Corporate Strategy Manager UFG Insurance AGE: 38 Best advice you ever received? A great friend reminded me to be confident with who I truly was and to show up as that person every day, in every interaction. It may have taken me some time to figure out what that meant but now I know that my authentic self is grounded in every interaction and relationship I have. What would most people be surprised to learn about you? I grew up in a small town in central Illinois and went to college to be a middle school science and math teacher. I got my teaching license in Illinois but moved to Cedar Rapids shortly after that. I needed a job and ended up in the business world instead of a classroom. Also, I hate bananas. If you had $1 million to give, what causes would you support? I would split it across different organizations. One would be the Junior League of Cedar Rapids — this organization truly helped to connect me to the community, taught me the value and impact of serving our community, and is committed to building the leadership potential of women in our area. What are your passions outside of the workplace? Traveling and exploring places near and far. I also enjoy hiking, taking advantage of our bike trails and local food and beverages. What’s something people should know about your generation in the workplace? We are hardworking, want to solve problems and have a lot of passion. Also, we want to help develop the next generation in the workforce. What do you want to accomplish by the time you are 50? I want to finish my goal of running 13 half marathons (I am currently training for No. 10), add more stamps to my passport and know that I am leaving an impact and supporting the community’s future leaders.
