The South of 6 Business District is searching for a new executive director following the resignation of Maurice Davis, who helped establish the organization as an economic development force on Iowa City’s south side.

Mr. Davis submitted his resignation earlier this month. His last day with the organization is June 26, according to South of 6 officials.

Amy Hospodarsky, board chair of the South of 6 Business District, credited Mr. Davis with shaping the organization’s early trajectory.

“We are deeply grateful to Maurice Davis for his commitment, vision, dedication, and tireless work on behalf of South District businesses,” Ms. Hospodarsky said. “His impact will be felt for years to come, and we look forward to building on that legacy as we search for our next leader.”

Mr. Davis was named South of 6 executive director in October 2024 after Angie Jordan, the previous director, stepped down for health reasons.

Founded in 2022, South of 6 is a self-supported municipal improvement district, or SSMID, focused on economic development, infrastructure improvements and business advocacy in Iowa City’s South District. The organization centers its work on increasing foot traffic, improving public spaces and connecting district businesses through shared resources.

The district is seeking a candidate with experience in economic development and community engagement. The full job description and application instructions are available at southof6.org/executive-director-job-listing.
