Scott Friauf, chief executive officer of Rinderknecht Associates, has been awarded the 2024 Master Builders of Iowa Build Iowa Award, which recognizes Mr. Friauf’s exceptional leadership and contributions to the construction industry, both locally and statewide.

Mr. Friauf’s impact on the construction industry is exemplified by his leadership during his tenure as chairman of the Master Builders of Iowa (MBI) board of directors, according to a news release.

One of his major achievements was spearheading MBI’s partnership with United Fire Group (UFG) in 2014, which led to the creation of a dividend-paying casualty program tailored to the vertical building industry. The program significantly reduced insurance premiums for qualified members, rewarding those who prioritized safety.

Under Mr. Friauf’s guidance, the MBI board of directors underwent a transformative phase, initiating a new strategic plan and budgeting session that made MBI programs and services more accessible to members.

Mr. Friauf also championed the launch of the MBI Training Vault, a platform for members to record and track their training, education, and professional development activities.

In addition to his contributions to the construction industry, Mr. Friauf has been an active member of the community. Since 1995, he has been a member of Rotary, serving initially with Daybreak Rotary before transferring to Downtown Cedar Rapids Rotary. His volunteer service with Rotary has raised thousands of dollars for local schools and scholarships for students to attend college.

Mr. Friauf’s dedication to community service extends beyond Rotary. He volunteered with the Community Corrections Improvement Association for many years, working to break the cycle of family dysfunction and address the causes of criminal behavior.

Mr. Friauf’s involvement with the Freedom Foundation has also had a significant impact. Not only does he serve on their board, but he also frequently volunteers to serve veterans lunch there. He’s currently an active Meals on Wheels volunteer as well.

“Scott is truly deserving of this recognition as he epitomizes the definition of a servant leader. His efforts at the local level have enhanced the lives of so many in the Cedar Rapids community”, said Chad Kleppe, president and CEO of the Master Builders of Iowa. “His willingness to share his passion for the industry through his MBI involvement has enhanced the value of membership and made MBI a better and more effective association. It is also fitting that his father was recognized as the Build Iowa Award recipient 20 years ago and is a tribute to the legacy the Friauf family has created in the building industry.”
