Ronald McDonald House adds professional chef to assist volunteers with meal preparation

Ronald McDonald Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (RMHC-EIWI) has added a new option to its volunteer meal program.

Volunteer groups now have access to a chef-led experience. In October upon the completion of a new commercial kitchen, the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City hired Chef Rob Bly.

Groups may have the chef select the menu and purchase the ingredients, allowing the volunteer groups to prepare meals under the chef’s guidance. Groups selecting this option will be asked to contribute $400 to offset the costs of the evening meals.

Volunteer groups may also continue to prepare meals the traditional way by providing their own ingredients and preparing meals onsite at the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City or at the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.

“With our new commercial kitchen, it was a natural step to hire a professional chef,” said Heather Croskrey, RMHC-EIWI chief development officer in a news release. “It brings a new level of service and support for our volunteer meal groups and our families. Groups often wonder what to prepare and this takes the guess work out of that, leaving the volunteers with a stress-free, fun experience in the kitchen.”
