Ribbon cutting Saturday at new Marion Chocolate Shop

Ben and Katy Davis, new owners of the Marion Chocolate Shop, will host their first retail event on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the chocolate shop, located at 1244 Seventh Ave., Marion. A ribbon cutting will be held at 10:30 am.

Since purchasing the business, the Davis’ have spent the last two weeks learning from previous owners Gae and Deane Richardson.

“Gae and Deane have taken time to share their 17 years of knowledge with us,” said Ben Davis. “Our goal is to build on their success and continue to grow and develop new sweet treats.”

Owning the Marion Chocolate Shop is a career shift for the couple. Mr. Davis has been a full-time officer in the Iowa National Guard for the past nine years and Ms. Davis is an occupational therapist. This shift is allowing them to feel more connected with the Marion community and fill an artistic need for Mr. Davis.

“My experience as a military officer has taught me about systems and processes,” added Mr. Davis. “Being able to apply that to our business will allow it to grow as I learn the chocolatier side of the house.”

The couple plans to resume regular daily hours at the Marion Chocolate Shop in July. Follow their progress on Facebook or on the chocolate shop’s website.
