Registration for the 36th annual Especially for You (EFY) Race Against Breast Cancer will open on Wednesday, April 1, at www.especiallyforyourace.org. This year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 4.
The EFY Race is a critical fundraiser for the Especially for You Fund, which provides financial assistance for breast care and gynecological cancer services, including breast, ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar and vaginal cancer care at participating local medical providers. Since its founding, the EFY Fund has helped nearly 15,300 individuals access more than 44,000 essential services.
Last year’s event saw a record-breaking 16,682 participants, and organizers stress that every registration helps expand access to life-saving care as demand for these services continues to rise.
Adding to the event’s excitement, participants voted in an online poll to select the color for this year’s race T-shirt, with “wild plum” being the winning color for 2026.
The EFY Race was co-founded by Mercy Medical Center and General Mills. It is dedicated to the memory of Sandy Knight, a General Mills employee and Whittier resident who passed away from breast cancer in July 1991. Knight was instrumental in organizing Mercy’s Especially for You After Breast Cancer Support Group, and her vision led to the first EFY Race in 1991.
