Eclectic Iowa City retail store, White Rabbit, located at 112 S. Linn St., has closed its doors after almost two decades in business. White Rabbit carried new and vintage clothing and sold handmade gifts, prints and other art pieces. Items sold in the store were known to be unique and sometimes quirky, with many pieces curated from hyperlocal sources. The shop’s downtown location and uncommon finds made it a popular stop for Iowa City locals and visitors alike.

Hand-drawn signs on White Rabbit’s door advertised a close-out sale Feb. 10 and 11. “Closeout is run by friends and family. Please bring a good attitude and kindness,” one sign read, and another announced proceeds of the sale were being distributed to White Rabbit vendors, U.A.Y. and family. Google lists the location as “temporarily closed,” but the listed phone number is no longer in service and the White Rabbit’s website URL, whiterabbitgallery.com, is no longer operating. The last post written on White Rabbit’s Facebook page on Aug. 20, 2023 indicated some recent difficulties. Attempts to reach the owner, Cortnie Widen, were unsuccessful.
