The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting April 14 to discuss licensing reviews and inspection activities related to a potential restart of the Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant near Palo.
The hybrid meeting will begin with an open house at 5 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Public Library’s Whipple Auditorium, 450 Fifth Ave. SE. A presentation and question-and-answer session with the NRC’s Duane Arnold Nuclear Plant Restart Panel will follow from 6 to 8 p.m.
Panel members will discuss the NRC’s review process and take questions and comments from attendees. Details on attending the meeting, either in-person or virtually, are available here.
Duane Arnold permanently ceased operations in August 2020. In 2025, NextEra Energy Duane Arnold, the facility’s license holder, expressed interest in returning the plant to operational status. The NRC subsequently formed the Duane Arnold restart panel to guide staff efforts to review and inspect the plant and determine whether it could be safely returned to service.
Additional information on the potential restart is available on the NRC’s website.
